"Captain Who" Serial 1K: Exhumation Of The Cybermen - Episode 1 [Roll Titles, with early fadeout - no episode title shown] [Excerpt from "Doctor Who" - "The Moonbase" Episode 4] The Gravitron was the only hope left. Benoit activated the controls, and the wave of gravitational force spilled out onto the lunar surface. The Cybermen attacking the moonbase slowly began to float away. The metal giants, their weapons, and their ships were slowly repelled into space, hurtled into the blackness. COMMANDER HOBSON That's taken care of the Cybermen! Polly, Ben, Jamie, and The Doctor began to moonwalk back to the TARDIS. What appeared to be a shooting star arced in the distance. POLLY (wondering) Could that be them, Doctor? THE DOCTOR (noncommittal) Possibly. (pauses) And I hope that's the last we see of them. With that, the foursome entered the Police Box, and it dematerialized. [Overlay episode title over cyber logo covered in blowing snow] The TARDIS shook. I leapt from my chair in the viewing room and stopped my tape of "The Evil Of The Daleks". Meanwhile, Lisa leapt from the swimming pool, grabbing a towel on her way out. A thin, echoing "bong" resounded throughout the TARDIS. THE CAPTAIN (alarmed) The Cloister Bell! I flew out of the viewing room and down the corridor toward the Main Console Room. Reaching the door, I skidded and grabbed the door handle, flinging the door open. I moved to enter the console room, but the TARDIS shook again. I lost my balance, and slammed into the doorway, slumping to the ground. The Cloister Bell rang out again. Lisa rounded a corner down the corridor to see me on the floor in the doorway. LISA SIMPSON Captain! Lisa redoubled her run down the corridor, dropping her towel. The TARDIS shook again, and Lisa, off-balance, tripped over one of my legs. LISA (yelping) Wlaaugh! Lisa flopped to the floor and stumbled to my side. LISA (very concerned) Captain! She nudged me. I did not stir. For a moment, Lisa squatted, looking at me and quietly panicking. The Cloister Bell echoed again. Overcome with the desire to act, she stood up and moved to the console. The central column was lit up like a Christmas tree with red and amber indicators flashing wildly. Scouring the console, Lisa located the Navigation Console. One large display showed a moving blue rectangle surrounded by concentric white lines. The rectangle crossed one of the lines, and the TARDIS shook again, followed by the Cloister Bell. Lisa ran back to my quiet form. LISA (pleading) Captain! I need help! Met with no response, she went back to the console. The Cloister Bell rang out once again. Determined now, she shook her head to clear away the cobwebs. Lisa suddenly chuckled softly as she found a button marked "HELP" on the console. LISA (to herself) Why didn't I see that before? She tapped the key, and a list of basic options was displayed on the console. Lisa chose the "Materialize TARDIS" option. The display flashed a grid on which several dots of varying sizes were mapped. The caption "Select Destination" flashed beneath the grid. Lisa moved her hand to the display. She was about to touch the image of one of the larger dots when the TARDIS shook again. Lisa gasped, for the disruption caused her hand to slip at the last second and touch the wrong dot. The other dots on the display disappeared, and the one she chose began to blink. The Cloister Bell began to sound, but stopped abruptly. Several of the red indicator lights on the central column changed to amber, and then to green. Lisa released a deep breath - the danger had aparrantly passed. Then she looked over to my position, and approached me again. LISA (coaxingly) C'mon, Captain... She gently tapped the side of my face. I began to stir. THE CAPTAIN (mumbling) Hmm? I choked slightly, and my eyes snapped open. THE CAPTAIN (alarmed) The Cloister Bell! I instantly leapt to my feet and reflexively dashed to the console, pouring over the displays. Most of the indicators now indicated nominal status. I moved around to the Systems Console. THE CAPTAIN (to no one in particular) I'm not getting a time reading... I tapped a few sequences on the console. THE CAPTAIN (realizing) A time rift! That would explain the Cloister Bell... Lisa looked confused. LISA (inquiring) Cloister Bell? THE CAPTAIN Cloister Bell, like a Red Alert, I suppose. It warns of imminent danger and wild catastrophe. LISA Oh! THE CAPTAIN Anyway, you did the right thing, Lisa. We were caught in the rift until you set us moving again. I'm proud of you. LISA (modestly) Thank-you. Now, if you'll excuse me... Lisa gestured to her swimsuit. THE CAPTAIN Of course. With that, Lisa walked out of the Console Room to change her clothes. * * * Inside the bridge of another space vehicle, a commanding officer looked at his crew worriedly. ADMIRAL DENOV Rava, status report. RAVA 6235 mendons to planet Theta-Seven-Niner-Gamma. DENOV Sustain. A crew member to the other side of Rava piped up. LEARY Sir. DENOV Yes, Mr. Leary? LEARY Metallic objects detected on Theta-Seven-Niner- Gamma. Admiral Denov looked at Leary, an unsure expression on his face. DENOV (pondering) Hmm... RAVA (announcing) Now entering Theta-Seven-Niner-Gamma's atmosphere. DENOV Yellow Status, Rava. RAVA Aye. * * * Back inside the Console Room, I was tapping at the Navagation Console. The central column, which had been moving previously, had stopped. Lisa opened the door and came in, having donned a more modest baja and jeans. Seeing the concerned look on my face, she crossed the room and looked at the readouts on the console. LISA What's the matter, Captain? THE CAPTAIN That's a very good question. With that, I ducked under the console and began checking components. THE CAPTAIN Ah! I pulled a small circuit board from under the console. LISA What is it? I looked at it for a moment. THE CAPTAIN It's the coordinate rectifier. It adjusts the landing zone according to how fast the planet is rotating and any local space-time anomalies. The rift must have shorted it out. I examined it further. THE CAPTAIN (to himself) Here's why, too. The phase discriminator was set too high. ...Soon have that fixed though. With that, I walked out of the console room and into the corridor, heading for the workshop. * * * Back on the other ship... RAVA And.....Touchdown! The other crewmembers cheered. DENOV (triumphant) All right! Now, let's get our bearings and get out of here! Mr. Leary, get our damage control teams to the quantum drive rectifiers, please. LEARY Aye, Sir. DENOV Mr. Rava, get me a map of that time rift, as accurate as you can get, and begin plotting an escape route. RAVA Aye, Sir. DENOV And Mr. Kendo, I want you to get a party together and investigate those metal objects. KENDO Yes, Sir! With that, the senior crew of the RTS Allman moved out. In a few minutes, a group had gathered in a staging area in another area of the ship, wearing heavy parkas. The group leader, Kendo, turned to his men. KENDO All right boys, it may not look too cold out there, but it's 13 doks below standard. The whole party shivered. Anything below 5 doks was cold, and 13 below was positively frigid. KENDO Let's go. The gangway hatch from the ship opened onto the planet surface, and the five man expedition moved out into the wasteland. Green bits of silica fell from the purple sky like a heavy Christmas snow. The boots of the exploration team crunched in the drifts of the stuff. GENDI Man, this place is weird. KENDO Yeah. A nice place to visit perhaps, but I certainly wouldn't want to live here. The small-statured Private Gendi activated a grey hand-held box and waved it slowly in front of him from side to side before gesturing off to his right. GENDI (reading the meter) This way... The group began to move in the suggested direction, looking about as they walked. NYJ I wonder what makes it snow. KAYA You call this stuff snow? Kaya held out a gloved hand to allow some of the silica fall on his glove. KENDO (jibing) I wouldn't try catching them with your tongue if I were you, Kaya... Everyone in the group chuckled. His attention returned to his task, Private Nyj checked the instrument he was carrying. NYJ Still no life readings. Reminded, Gendi checked his. GENDI Sir! KENDO What is it, Gendi? GENDI A smaller reading, 4 cubimendons in... that direction. He indicated just to the left of their current heading. Kendo looked off in that direction. KENDO Let's check it out then. The group marched on their new heading, and as they walked an indentation in the silica snow became visible against the otherwise flat terrain. KAYA Kendo, most of the silica here has been melted - fused together. Kendo looked around suspiciously. GENDI Something's not quite right about this. KENDO I agree, Gendi. They followed the indentation, which turned into a furrow the farther they went, until it ended abruptly in a sort of very large snowbank. GENDI Well, whatever it is, it's here. Kaya and Moti examined the snowbank while the others fanned out around it. Nyj looked at his instrument with disbelief. NYJ I'm picking up indeterminate life signs! Very faint, but they're there. KAYA Yes, there's something here! The glint of silver could just be seen under the green snow. KENDO (wary) Carefully, men, we don't know what it is. The group slowly brushed away the silica snow covering the object buried nearly vertically in the drift. KAYA (amazed) Hey, this looks like an arm! NYJ (astounded) I-I think it's a man! They picked up the pace of their excavation until the passionless mask was revealed. KENDO It's HUGE! GENDI What IS it? The five of them gathered in front of it and gawked at it for a moment. Then, without warning, the Cyberman lunged at them... Captain Who (c) 1993 Wildcat Productions This Script (c) 1994 Wildcat Productions
